Of Sandcastles and Seas

Kids don’t learn the intricacies of society by memorizing the do’s and don’ts. They can’t flawlessly breeze through conversations between judgemental people and not feel a sense inferiority. I never knew what it meant to live in a place where you can be judged by everything you did. The Yeira Uhuru of six years ago never knew how real-life judgemental people are. She never knew that. I am Yeira and I never knew that. Even though I was told so many times by my parents. I had known the rules theoretically but…to implement these on a real-life basis? Even though my name means ‘success’ and ‘freedom’, I was a ‘failure’ and a ‘prisoner’. Can these six years really change anything? I looked at myself in the mirror contemplating the looks of the girl who once had never known the pains of trying to fit in. The girl in the mirror looked more or less the same but there were some changes. Her long black hair fell from her head in waves, rippling down halfway through her back. T...

A casual note from a Tired Writer who cannot stop procrastinating (share if you agree)

Procrastination .The issue that everyone has. The excuse given by that exceptionally smart kid in class who could become the president on the moon yet chooses to be the biggest slacker in the class.  The actual reason behind a barrage of uncompleted assignments and commitments. The reason that holds us back in our tracks to success. I have been procrastinating a lot lately when it comes to publishing new blog posts. My brain was absolutely refusing to churn out a new idea for the schedule and my hands were refusing to type out any stupid idea that randomly sprang in my head. In my defense, I would like to say that I was busy painting and playing games. I mean, if you scratched the games part, I could’ve done some writing but whatever. Let’s...not go there. Ahem Speaking of which, the weather is rainy. If you live in the southernmost region of India, the weather is tropical and humid. Our lands were starved of water, so today was blessed by a bountiful bout of rain (why do I ...

One-Day trips

Image
There’s nothing more relaxing than sitting in the car, rocking pleasantly with the car, feeling the fresh breeze from the open windows as trees zip back into a green blur and the sun peeking from behind those giant tree tops. I adore the peace and quiet of the ride, choosing to listen to the swishing winds than songs that matched the vibe. The rhythmic rocking, the pleasant winds and the noise of the car fills me with peace.  I am the type of passenger to silently gaze at the passing by trees, cars, windmills and road signs. I like the sight of the soft blue sky, tinged with yellows and oranges. Road trips are calming and a chance for us to unwind and exit the monotony of our everyday lives. I had been on multiple trips to Hyderabad and I always fall victim to the beauty of those outstretched fields of green. It is a relief to see such varying shades of green after staring at our screens. We always start our trips before the break of dawn so it is alway...

Cricket and Physics

Again, this is a NEET-centric story taking place in the same classroom but during a different subject. That subject was physics and thankfully, the lecturer was a very chill and humorous person. Humorous lecturer or not, I still had no intention of attending those classes whatsoever. Normal physics was already driving me crazy so why would I think NEET physics would be all rainbows and sunshine? The weather was breezy and cool and none of the students looked like they remotely wanted to stay for another two hours in that dimly-lit classroom (one of the tube –lights said “ Sayonara* , losers. Enjoy the lesson in the dark”). The biggest perk that day was that the lecturer was very late and we had an additional one hour for a break. The principal wasn’t in the college that day and had left early, leaving her son as the in- charge (despite being as scary as his mother, he is very chill and easy-going.). You might be thinking that I could have skipped class that day since t...

Home-sick and Indelicate

I studied in an all-girls Indian Embassy school where almost all Indian nationals go. India is a very diverse country , having twenty-nine states and different cultures. The people in my classes used to be from different states and there were very few people who came from a similar city like me.   Such differences between my classmates did not divide us, instead we were all one. One of the friendships that I loved and envied at the same time was the one that existed between my elder sister and her friends. Apart from her , the other girls were from Hyderabad and Kerala. There was such an effortless bond between each member and all of their energies matched with each other. They were really good and I am rather glad she is still in touch with them. School was great and enjoyable. I find it extremely embarrassing to admit it but I was not exactly intimidated by others as I am now. The bombastic , younger version of mine was rather loud , over-reactive and the interf...
