The fantasy of romances and friendships.

Image
People love to have a fairytale story in their lives. They love to be rich and wealthy, have a mansion full of servants, and have a beautiful partner and a circle of reliable friends. It is not a shame to imagine and wish for good things but going completely off the rails by being delusional? Now that’s an issue. Ever heard of spouses ruining families to get their hands on the ancestral wealth? Did you pay close attention to who was your truest friend when you were in despair? Did you listen to stories of people getting cursed with misfortunes because someone couldn’t handle their success? The internet shows its audience a lot of fantasies about love and friendship. It also shows its exceptions in the spotlight but we still love to wallow in our imagination about how cool would it be to marry someone rich, handsome and completely stable. Certain novels often gain recognition for their well-written side-characters or for the realistic way they handled the plot. Fantasy is good and...

Getting over that block.

You know when you’re at that point in your life where your brain refuses to be creative at the most crucial times? Like, you have your essay’s deadline tomorrow, but your head is clean out of ideas and prompts. It’s the time when your hand wishes to do something useful but your mind refuses to cooperate, leading to irritation at yourself.  then it eventually ends up being a miserable cycle of uselessness which defeats the urge to do something creative. We refer to this gap in the creative grind as a ‘block’. It is commonly known as a ‘writer’s block ‘and an ‘artist’s block’. The frustration over being unable to keep the flow of inspiration going is palpable and difficult to overcome. Whether it is for an artist or writer, it doesn’t matter since blocks like these can hinder anyone in any field.   Since I am currently going through an atrocious Writer’s Block that ruined my schedule, here are some do’s and don’ts that I gathered for all those fellow writers, artists and ba...

Literary rants

I read a lot. I stare at books and screens like a maniac until the stories are finished. This habit is shared between all two of my sisters so you can say we have a little shelf full of books that we have re-read a thousand times and still never get bored. Nowadays, I often read to get ideas for the blog and to brainstorm topics for future articles which has led me to come across an array of new words and possibilities. My pastime during the day is playing games. This particular game that I play has a very interesting plot and the characters have a very unique way of speaking. One of them really piqued my interest when she talked about a villain’s backstory through an allegory. Allegories are stuff that tell you the truth in a roundabout way, basically. I was just randomly scrolling through the web one day and found out an alternate version of Romeo and Juliet. My knowledge of this famous romantic tragedy was very limited since all I knew was that Romeo used to lik...

Of Sandcastles and Seas

Kids don’t learn the intricacies of society by memorizing the do’s and don’ts. They can’t flawlessly breeze through conversations between judgemental people and not feel a sense inferiority. I never knew what it meant to live in a place where you can be judged by everything you did. The Yeira Uhuru of six years ago never knew how real-life judgemental people are. She never knew that. I am Yeira and I never knew that. Even though I was told so many times by my parents. I had known the rules theoretically but…to implement these on a real-life basis? Even though my name means ‘success’ and ‘freedom’, I was a ‘failure’ and a ‘prisoner’. Can these six years really change anything? I looked at myself in the mirror contemplating the looks of the girl who once had never known the pains of trying to fit in. The girl in the mirror looked more or less the same but there were some changes. Her long black hair fell from her head in waves, rippling down halfway through her back. T...

A casual note from a Tired Writer who cannot stop procrastinating (share if you agree)

Procrastination .The issue that everyone has. The excuse given by that exceptionally smart kid in class who could become the president on the moon yet chooses to be the biggest slacker in the class.  The actual reason behind a barrage of uncompleted assignments and commitments. The reason that holds us back in our tracks to success. I have been procrastinating a lot lately when it comes to publishing new blog posts. My brain was absolutely refusing to churn out a new idea for the schedule and my hands were refusing to type out any stupid idea that randomly sprang in my head. In my defense, I would like to say that I was busy painting and playing games. I mean, if you scratched the games part, I could’ve done some writing but whatever. Let’s...not go there. Ahem Speaking of which, the weather is rainy. If you live in the southernmost region of India, the weather is tropical and humid. Our lands were starved of water, so today was blessed by a bountiful bout of rain (why do I ...
